Forecasts

Drier Friday before more rain Saturday

It was quite breezy in the mid-afternoon time frame with wind gusts in the 30-40mph for a time with some limited power outages. While breezes most areas are subsiding slowly into tonight, it remains gusty mainly near the water and in the mountains. Around Whidbey Island and across into Snohomish County, we will have gusts exceeding 30mph into the late evening before settling a bit.

A few showers this evening will favor the north Sound in a Puget Sound Convergence Zone, the mountains and foothills and the coast. There could be a little drizzle or a few light showers into early Friday but things will be drying up after daybreak tomorrow. Morning lows will be in the 40s.

By afternoon, expect more sunshine on Friday with highs in the 60s for most. A nice day.

While we need more substantial rainfall, it appears now a stronger weather system will bring more rain to the mountains on Saturday and some passing showers in the lowlands. Rainfall amounts in the mountains could exceed on inch on the higher terrain, while in the lowlands, rainfall amounts of a few hundredths to a few tenths of an inch is possible – mainly favoring locations near the mountains, along the coast, and north of Everett. However, most areas will get rain at least at some point in the day Saturday. Highs will be in the 50s to low 60s.

We’ll be drier on Sunday and Monday with some clouds and sun, before more significant rainfall arrives Tuesday. This could be a good wetting rain for the region – something very much needed.

It looks to continue to be cooler than average most days into Memorial Day weekend, though it’s too early for a specific forecast for that holiday weekend itself.
