Thornton Blames Host For Odd Interview

Actor-Musician Gave Bizarre Responses To Questions

Billy Bob Thornton is blaming CBC broadcaster Jian Ghomeshi for his bizarre interview on Canadian public radio Wednesday that was videotaped and available to viewers over the Web.

In the interview, Thornton became upset with Ghomeshi, who introduced Thornton and his band, The Boxmasters, by referencing to him as an "Oscar-winning screenwriter, actor and director."

Tracked down by SplashOnline.com cameras Thursday, Thorton was asked, "Billy Bob, do you regret the interview you did with CBC?" to which the actor-musician replied, "Of course not."

Asked by the cameraman where the interview went wrong, Thornton added, "I didn't go wrong. He went wrong," referring to Ghomeshi.

First giving short, non-specific answers to Ghomeshi's questions after the introduction Wednesday, Thornton only elaborated when answering a question about his musical influences. However, the response was about the Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine that he subscribed to as a kid.

When Ghomeshi asked how that pertained to his music, Thornton made it clear that he was upset that the radio show was only supposed to talk about his music, not his film work.

"You were instructed not to talk about (expletive) like that," Thornton said.

Ghomeshi said that was only trying to give his radio audience some context.

At the end of the interview, Thornton's bandmates performed an instrumental tune without him. As the drummer in the band, Thornton remarked that it was too early in the morning to cart around his instrument.

TMZ.com said that Thornton and The Boxmasters were reportedly booed during their gig in Toronto Thursday.

Thornton won a Best Original Screeplay Oscar for "Sling Blade," a film that also earned him a Best Actor Oscar nomination.

He also has been nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for "A Simple Plan." His other credits include "Armageddon," "Bad Santa" and the upcoming crime drama "The Informers."
