NEW YORK -- Gasoline prices have dipped slightly for the first time in more than two weeks even though oil futures rose sharply. AAA and the Oil Price Information Service said Friday regular gas fell one-tenth of one cent overnight to an average $3.62 a gallon. Diesel prices slid two-tenths of a cent. It's the first time in 18 days they haven't set a new record. One expert with the Oil Price Information Service said he thinks we may soon see the peak. Fred Rozell said regular gas may reach an average $3.70 a gallon, but he doesn't expect it to go any higher. The apparent reason for the dip in gas prices is less demand as people cut back. Oil futures, meanwhile, jumped more than $3 a barrel Friday to finish the day at slightly more than $116.As soaring gas prices put vacation plans on hold, one hotel chain is hoping to lure guests with gas rebates. The promotion by Loews Hotels promises to reimburse guests for up to $50 of their hotel bill. Shoppers cut spending on such things as cars, furniture, household appliances, food and clothes.
