New SUV, Car Crash Ratings Posted

In a group of newly tested 2005 models, the Subaru Outback was the only vehicle to receive the government's top safety ratings for all crash tests.

The SUV got five stars for all seats for both front and side impacts.

The Chrysler 300 and twin the Dodge Magnum were the safest among cars. They received five stars in frontal crashes and for the driver in side impacts, and four stars for rear passengers in a side crash.

In rollover testing, the highest rated pickups were the Dodge Ram, the Chevrolet Colorado and its corporate twin the GMC Canyon 4x4, each receiving four-stars, a 17.9 percent chance of rollover in a single-vehicle crash.

The testing showed some problems for the Ford Focus two-door hatchback. The car got a three-star rating for driver safety in a side impact. It also received a four-star rating for rear passengers, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration noted there was a high likelihood of head injuries.

The round of results includes information about the Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum, Dodge Ram pickup, Nissan Altima, Pontiac Vibe, Subaru Outback, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix, Chevrolet Colorado pickup, Ford Freestar van, Ford Ranger pickup, GMC Canyon pickup, Mazda B-Series pickups.
