Seattle Police Officer Hurt In Patrol Car Crash

SEATTLE -- A Seattle police officer was injured when his patrol car struck a utility pole in Ballard early Monday morning, police said.The officer was responding to a report of a burglary when he lost control of his vehicle and hit the pole at 15th Avenue Northwest and Northwest 64th Street at about 3 a.m., Capt. Steve Brown said.Brown told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that the Jaws of Life had to be used to extricate the officer from his heavily damaged patrol car.Brown said the officer was awake and talking before being loaded into a medic unit and transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.Fifteenth Avenue Northwest remains closed while police conduct their investigation.
