Coe Elementary Celebrates 100 Years

POSTED: 11:02 am PDT May 30, 2007

Students at Franz H. Coe Elementary are getting a special history lesson this year. They are looking back at 100 years of their school's history. The elementary school on Queen Anne Hill opened back in 1905, with two temporary wooden structures. Two years later, in 1907, it was replaced by a two story building which continued to grow with the community. In 1914 eight more rooms were added so the school could serve 575 students.

That original school building, with its huge ionic columns and classic colonial style burned down in January of 2001, while being renovated. Today a new three story school sit on the site.

On June 2, the Queen Anne Community will help Celebrate a Century at Coe. Many former and current students will be there to take part in a Vintage Fashion Show, an Alumni procession and even a Carnival. Later in the afternoon they will bury a Time Capsule.

The events begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2.
