Schools Chief Seeks Delay Of Some Graduation Requirements

SEATTLE -- State Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn is seeking a delay for both science and math requirements for high school graduation.Dorn said students need more time to learn the new standards created by lawmakers in 2008.Dorn is asking the Legislature to make four major changes including delaying the math requirement until 2015 and the science requirement until 2017.Dorn also proposed a two-tier math requirement and end-of-course science tests.The schools chief said an unacceptable number of students are unable to pass state math and science tests.
