Mel Gibson's Wife Files For Divorce

TMZ Says Actor-Director, Wife Had No Prenuptial Agreement

Mel Gibson's wife, Robyn Moore, has filed for divorce from her actor-director husband of 28 years, according to TMZ.com.

According to the celebrity gossip site, Moore filed papers Monday morning in Los Angeles Superior Court. The couple has seven children, only one of which is a minor.

TMZ said that Moore is seeking physical and legal custody of the minor, 10-year-old Tom, and is asking for spousal support and attorneys fees.

The site also said that since Moore married Gibson in 1980 -- long before the film star amassed his estimated $900 million fortune -- no prenuptial agreement was ever signed.

Sources told TMZ that Gibson and his wife have been separated for 2 and a-half years.

"Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so," Gibson and Moore said in a joint statement.

Moore's attorney is Laura Wasser, who has previously represented Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears and Stevie Wonder in their divorce cases, TMZ said.

As an actor, Gibson has starred in the "Mad Max" film trilogy and four "Lethal Weapon" films, as well as "The Patriot," "Ransom" and "What Women Want."

Gibson also starred, directed and produced "Braveheart," which earned him Best Director and Best Picture Oscars.

The 53-year-old Gibson has also directed such controversial films as "The Passion of the Christ" and "Apocalypto."
