On Sunday, December 16, 2012, at 3:00 pm, the Whirling Dervishes of the Mevlevi Order of America will present the Sema Ceremony honoring the great Sufi Mystical Poet, Hz. Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi, at Seattle University's Campion Ballroom. The Ceremony will be directed by Postneshin Jelaleddin Loras, from Konya, Turkey, founder of the Mevlevi Order of America, presented as it has been for over 700 years. The evening will feature the prayer dancing of the Whirling Dervishes. In their traditional felt hats and flowing white garments, turners whirl in unison, attuning to the music of the heart. The evening opens with guest musicians from Turkey playing classical and devotional Turkish music, including master musicians Timucin Cevikoglu, bendir hand drum, vocals and Oguz Kaan Birhekimoglu, ney flute, with musicians of the MOA Ensemble from across the United States. Paid parking is available in the Murphy garage at 11th and E Cherry street. The last presentation of the Sema Ceremony in Seattle in 2008 sold out prior to the event. Remaining tickets will be available at the door (cash only) for $30 General. Student and Seniors (with ID) $20 at the door only on the night of the event. 20 - 35 USD
