7:00pmPurpose: In African American culture signifying is the act of using verbal strategy to "double" a meaning of a word (Henry Louis Gates Jr.), thereby evoking some what of a trickster character in the one signifying. Signifying, takes on the spirit of the trickster by allowing a featured artist to tell the stories that we all want to hear, but may never hear in a normal setting. Signifying combines storytelling and playback theatre, by leading the audience through a workshop that will help them invoke their inner trickster, inspire a story or two, feature an artist, and open the stage for audience members to tell tales of grandier, hearbreak, celebration, and much more.
