National Book Award-winning author (The Noonday Demon) and psychiatry lecturer Andrew Solomon set out to look at how parents learn to live with exceptional children-seeming 'outliers' within their own families. After 10 years and interviews with more than 250 families dealing with autism, deafness, schizophrenia, kids who identify as transgender, or kids who are conceived in rape, or commit serious crimes, Solomon's startling thesis is that difference is actually what unites us. His latest, Far From the Tree, derives its eloquence from ordinary people facing extraordinary challenges- often in the face of prejudice and almost unimaginable difficulty-and how they find hope, courage, and meaning in doing so. $5 * contact the Venue listed below for ticketing information
