"There is no friend as loyal as a book" - Ernest Hemingway Start your season off with a holiday themed storytime, crafts and treats, as we provide books for local foster children! Brad (affectionately called Mr. Brad), from "The Brainy Bookshelf," will be sharing some wonderful Holiday stories that will not only entertain, but also promote awareness of early childhood literacy.  In addition to being a father to three young boys, Brad holds a Masters degree in Library Science and spent eight years working with children, parents and caregivers in a public library system.   Books will be available for sale, so bring your Christmas shopping list!  Brad is excited to help parents recognize and implement essential early literacy skills, and will be available to assist in the selection of developmentally appropriate books for each child.  50% of all book sales will be used to purchase and donate new, quality books to Treehouse, an organization that gives foster children a real childhood as well as hope for the future.  This time of year our thoughts are drawn to those individuals, especially children, who may be going without some of the basic comforts of life.  And while many programs ask for toys and clothing donations for young girls and boys, very few ask for books.  And for the over half-million children currently in the foster care system, a book is a friend they can take wherever they may go.  Foster children are all too often struggling with difficult challenges in their personal and family lives, and books can provide an excellent source of companionship, and even more important - hope.  As the late author G.K Chesterton so beautifully stated, “Fairy tales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten." ARMOMMY will be providing a craft table for children to enjoy, with delightful holiday themed creations. Milk and cookies will be provided, with a gluten free and dairy free options.  Kids are encouraged to wear their PJ's!
