The Evergreen State College, Tacoma Campus 1210 6th Ave Tacoma, WA 98405 5:00 - 8:00 pm Please join the Pierce Conservation District at the 2013 Annual Meeting {e_description}amp; Awards Banquet. At this gathering we will celebrate 2012 accomplishments and honor amazing volunteers and community partners working to conserve natural resources and support sustainable farming throughout Pierce County. Doors open at 5:00 pm for gathering, viewing of our partner displays, slide show of accomplishments and a light dinner. Presentation of District and Stream Team awards begins at 6:15 pm, followed by guest speaker, David Montgomery. Guest Speaker - David R. Montgomery David R. Montgomery was born in 1961 Stanford, California, and studied geology at Stanford University before earning his Ph.D. in geomorphology at UC Berkeley. He teaches at the University of Washington where he studies the evolution of topography and how geological processes shape landscapes and influence ecological systems. He loved maps as a kid and now writes about the relationship of people to their environment and other things that interest him. In 2008 he was named a MacArthur Fellow. He lives with his wife Anne in Seattle, Washington. He is the author of The Rocks Don't Lie: A Geologist Investigates Noah's Flood, Dirt: The Erosion of Civilizations and King of Fish: The Thousand-Year Run of Salmon. Elections: The election for a position on the District Board of Supervisors will also take place at this event. Although the Annual Meeting is from 5:00-8:00pm, voting is open from 4:00-8:00pm. To have your ballot counted, you must be a registered voter who resides within District boundaries and be able to show identification to verify that you are a qualified voter.
