Join renowned economist and author Dean Baker at the home of John Burbank and Pam MacEwan for a discussion of Baker's recent book, The End of Loser Liberalism: Making Markets Progressive.Baker makes the case that progressives need a fundamentally new approach to politics. They are losing not only because conservatives have so much more money and power, but also because they have accepted conservative framing of today's political debates -- where conservatives want 'market' outcomes, and liberals want the government to intervene to bring about 'fair' outcomes. This, Baker says, is not true. Conservatives rely on the government all the time, most importantly in structuring the market in ways that ensure that income flows upwards -- but today's political frames put liberals in the position of seeming to want to tax the 'winners' to help the 'losers'. This "loser liberalism" is bad policy and horrible politics.Join friends and supporters of the Economic Opportunity Institute to learn how progressives can focus their efforts on restructuring markets themselves, so more income flows to the bulk of the working population rather than just a small elite.Drinks and hors d'oeuvres provided - please RSVP so we have enough on hand.BONUS!The End of Loser Liberalism: Making Markets Progressive is a free download under a Creative Commons license, as Baker 'walks his talk' that copyrights represent a government intervention in the market which creates enormous inefficiency and redistributes income upward. (Hard copies are available online for purchase, at cost.) "I'm no loser liberal." (Yes, I'll be there.) 0.00 "Oh yeah? Lose this, sucka!" (Yes, I'll be there.) 0.00 "Love is all you need. But money keeps the doors open." (optional donation)
