Doors at 6:30 p.m., dinner and program at 7 p.m.
Highlights of the event:Come hear from Hanford whistleblower, Donna Busche. Donna is an interesting and charismatic woman, and a senior nuclear engineer in charge of environmental safety at Hanford’s Waste Treatment Plant ("WTP"). Last year, after growing increasingly concerned over unaddressed safety issues, Donna put her job at risk by bringing these concerns to the Department of Energy. They ignored her, so Donna came to Hanford Challenge for help. Hanford Challenge saved Donna from getting fired for speaking up, and got her story on NPR and on the front page of USA Today. This got DOE's attention, and thanks to Donna and others like her, federal regulators are now keeping a very close eye on the Waste Treatment Plant. For entertainment, World Champion Rope Jumper (and Hanford Challenge staffer, featured here in yellow shirt and blue jeans) Meredith Crafton, will be showcasing her outstanding rope jumping abilities. We are also delighted to announce that the talented and entertaining Matt Smith will be returning to emcee!Auction items will include, among other things, a weekend getaway at the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort in gorgeous Leavenworth, Washington, a whale watching excursion in the San Juan Islands, and an Alaskan holiday package. Since the audience won't be too big, the chances of getting a great deal on a vacation are good, not to mention, it supports a good cause.
