Theater Schmeater is pleased to announce the opening production of our 2013 Season, Martin McDonagh’s quirky peek into the underbelly of Americana, A Behanding in Spokane. This darkly funny show opens on Friday January 25th and runs through February 23. A Behanding in Spokane tells of Carmichael, a sometime drifter who is in pursuit of something very dear to him; something stolen from him at an early age; something he is willing to kill for. Ensconced in a dreadfully run-down hotel room, in an equally drab middle American city, Carmichael may have a hostage as leverage to regain his beloved item. A nosy and equally quirky hotel clerk keeps check on Carmichael and his inadvertent guest. Fuses are set, windows shattered, and mothers are called in Martin McDonagh’s twisted black comedy. A Behanding in Spokane first played in New York in March 2010 starring Christopher Walken in the role of Carmichael. The play earned Walken a Tony award nomination for Best Actor. Not the first McDonagh play to exhibit the dark playful side of the universe, A Behanding in Spokane offers compelling twists and turns - the kind of maneuvers that only a gallon of gasoline and a malfunctioning Zippo can compel. With a host of film (In Bruges (2008) and Seven Psychopaths (2012)) and stage credits (The Lieutenant of Inshmore, and The Pillowman ), McDonagh has staked a claim as one of the most irreverent, and darkly funny, writers of our time. Advance tickets $18, $15 for students and seniors Day-of-show tickets purchased at the box office $23, $18 for students and seniors Online Sales/Reservations: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/275821 1-800-838-3006
