For over 40 years, the Ice Arena on Lake Steilacoom was a favorite hangout for people of all ages. Originally built as the Oakes Pavillion in the 1920s, the building was turned into an ice skating rink by Norton Clapp for his wife. He opened it to the public in 1939. It was demolished in 1982 when the roof collapsed.
