Connecting the Head and Heart: Building the Case for Equity Filmmaker and racial justice educator Dr. Shakti Butler will lead this one-day workshop that is designed to build skills for advancing and strengthening racial justice work. Using her new film, Cracking the Codes: The System of Racial Inequity, as a catalyst for dialogue, Dr. Butler will lead participants to develop a deeper understanding of the system of inequity and explore strategies to achieve personal, organizational, and structural transformation. The forum will foster community connection and is designed to enable new questions and new approaches to emerge that will facilitate racial justice work in the Pacific Northwest. This is a great professional development and networking opportunity for human service professionals, educators, organizers, youth workers, students, social justice advocates, and others looking to deepen their understanding of their role and work in advancing racial justice. Objectives: To deepen the conversation about racial equity and advance racial healing; To learn and teach one another how to envision and build spaces that invite us to step into our collective greatness; To serve as a catalyst for further collaboration and personal, organizational, and structural transformation; and To mirror and advance the brilliance of transformation and freedom that we can find in inquiry and connection. Target Audience: >People generating new behavior and communication strategies by engaging in new questions; >People interested in building and strengthening their relationships with others working towards racial equity; >People who are willing to challenge and transform themselves, their perceptions, and their behaviors through engagement and integrity; and >People who want to be in a community in order to expand their learning, thinking, and emotional awareness about justice and freedom. NOTE: This forum builds on the experience of Cracking the Codes: The System of Racial Inequity film and community dialogue event on Wednesday, March 13th at 6:30 pm.
