Miller Community Center 330 19th Ave E Seattle, WA 98112 Thursday, February 28, 2013, 6 – 9pm The Baha'is of Seattle would like to invite the entire Seattle Community to the Festival of Ayyam-i-Ha. The Festival of Ayyam-i-Ha (translated as "Days of Joy" or "Days outside of time") is when Baha'is and friends perform acts of charity, give gifts to friends and family and attend social gatherings like this one, before a period of fasting begins. Some think of it as parallel to Fat Tuesday before Lent. Even as a Baha'i Christmas. This year, we'd like to invite the entire Seattle community of all faiths or no faiths to this free event. No one will try to convert anyone and no Kool Aid will be served. :-) Baha'is are forbidden to proselytize. Baha'u'llah, the prophet-founder of the Baha'i Faith, said of Ayyam-i-Ha: "It behoveth the people of Baha, throughout these days, to provide good cheer for themselves, their kindred and, beyond them, the poor and needy, and with joy and exultation to hail and glorify their Lord, to sing His praise and magnify His Name." The rest is left wide open. No mention of lights or fireworks or dragons or trees or candles or unleavened bread or money. No particular colors, specific decorations, foods, or ceremonies associated with this season. This year, we have a special rockstar guest who will be playing her tunes: MJ Cyr from Toronto, Canada! Listen to her cool tunes, buy her CDs or download her music at mjcyr.com Just to add to the musical madness, Rochelle Saedi will be strumming beautiful melodies on her harp. In addition, there will be lots of food. Free food that was brought in from the Baha'i community. Please invite your friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, anyone! All Baha'i events are strictly non-alcoholic - so we make an extra effort to have loads of fun. All guests are asked to bring non-persiable food items to donate to the Northwest Harvest Food Bank - www.northwestharvest.org This free Festival will be from 6pm to 9pm at the Miller Community Center at 330 19th Avenue East. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or need further details. Regards, Art Liem Festival Organizer.
