University Heights Center 5031 University Way NE Seattle, WA 98105 Thursday, February 21, 2013, 6:30 – 8:30pm Please join World Arts Access for an evening presentation about Yemen, its vibrant culture, and youth activism with Wael Al-Kibse, the Project Manager of FM Shabab, World Arts Access’ youth-run radio station in Yemen. Featured mainly in U.S. media in relation to drone strikes and terrorism, most Americans know very little about the culture and people of this small Middle Eastern country. In his presentation, Mr. Al-Kibse will move beyond common stereotypes about Yemen, discussing daily life and current events, his own experiences as a resident in the capital city, Sana’a, and his role managing one of the only youth-run radio stations in the country. FM Shabab reaches out to the youth who make up over fifty percent of the population, providing a platform for young people to discuss important social issues ranging from early marriage and family planning to gender issues, inclusive governance, human rights, and extremism. Come learn about this complex and fascinating country and the youth who are building a path to peace. Middle Eastern refreshments provided.
