Paper Hammer Gallery
1400 2nd Ave
Seattle, WA 98101
Friday, March 8, 2013, 11am – 6pm
In March, Paper Hammer Gallery will present MARKINGS: Selected Work of Tom Hausken. The work spans from 2007 to 2012.
Hausken writes, “I am moved by artists and thinkers who delve into the difficult realms of existence, the big whys. The paintings are markers, a notch in a branch along the road, a signal to show where I’ve been or perhaps a warning to not pass this way again.”
The artist’s austere yet intimate work is intended to be a commentary on the gritty stuff of life, and his process is an intuitive one. The Japanese aesthetic and philosophy of wabi sabi permeates the paintings. He says, “I love to work and re-work a painting: scraping, cutting, layering, heaving loaded brushes at the painting’s surface, creating splatters and drips. I accept the flaws, the erasures, and concealments as necessary. I employ chance.”
Paper Hammer will host a First Thursday reception for Hausken’s work on March 7th. Mark your calendars—we hope to see you there!
