IRVING, Texas -- An Irving man admitted to putting a dog in a box and leaving it on the mayor's doorstep and will explain why to detectives Wednesday, Dallas telelvision KXAS reported.Phillip Smith said he was tired of Edwin Amaya's Chihuahua, Rambo, running loose in the neighborhood. Smith said animal control did nothing."I've talked to the owners of the dog," Smith said. "I've talked to the dog pound."Smith decided to take the dog issue, or just the dog, to Mayor Herbert Gears."I figured, drop it off on his doorstep," he said.Gears was surprised to find the dog by his front door."There was kind of a crazy note on the box complaining about our animal services," Gears said. "And that since I was the mayor I should deal with it and here's a dog for me."Gears said Rambo had chewed out of the box and had apparently been bitten by another dog."I don't know how it got injured," Smith said. "I guarantee you I boxed it up, used two rolls of boxing tape, sealing tape. That dog was secure in the box with the note taped to the top."Officials said Smith could face animal abuse and theft charges.
