It’s been a long, hard hiatus since Candice Glover was crowned the winner of American IdolSeason 12. Thankfully, our favorite music competition returned tonight (January 15), and we met a whole new crop of hopefuls looking to become the country’s next big superstar!
Kicking off the latest tour of the United States, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and new judge Harry Connick Jr. headed for Austin, Texas and Boston, Massachusetts. (Of course, Ryan Seacrest was also there to provide much-needed commentary.)
It’s in Boston where the judges meet Stephanie Hanvey, a J.Lo superfan who saved money all summer in order to make it to auditions. When the 16-year-old decides to go with “Price Tag” by Jessie J, the judges feel torn.|
“The singing needs some work,” says Keith. “But it’s not just a singing show. There’s more going on. You’ve got a great way of performing and I found that really interesting.”
“There’s a composure that’s very powerful,” adds Harry. “But I think your voice needs some time to develop.”
Of course, it’s going to be J.Lo’s opinion that really means the most for young Stephanie. “I like you,” she says. “You do need some work. There was something emotionally lacking to me, but maybe it was just your nerves.”
After a bit of deliberation, the judges ultimately decide to send her through to Hollywood!
What do you think of Stephanie’s performance? Will she make it to the Top 31? Read our spoilers here!
