Mudslide Spills Across Westlake Avenue

SEATTLE -- Heavy rains caused a mudslide that has blocked all but one lane of traffic at the 2000 block Avenue of Westlake Avenue in Seattle Monday morning for several hours.The slide is on the West side of Lake Union.Video from Chopper 7 showed a large pile of mud and debris spilled across the road. Road crews completely closed the roadway while bulldozers load mud into waiting dumptrucks. Two trucks were fully loaded and a third and fourth truck were expected to be filled by the time the road was completely cleared.

Road crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation said they will put up barriers to keep mud from flowing from hillside onto the road again.Authorities have advised residents of a condominium sitting just above Westlake Avenue on 8th Avenue North to evacuate the building but they are not requiring residents to leave. The building’s parking garage is flooded.
