SEATTLE -- Helicopter crews have rescued 300 people from flooded areas of Western Washington this week, and the operation is continuing, Gov. Chris Gregoire said at a news briefing on Wednesday.Coast Guard crews have helped to hoist people and six animals from homes flooded by a drenching storm early this week.

Some people were trapped in their homes without adequate food and water. Others were in need of immediate medical help, the Coast Guard said.A pregnant woman near Pacific City was rescued by one helicopter crew, the Coast Guard said.The Coast Guard brought equipment from San Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento for the rescues, officials said.
