Storm Damage Leaves Communities Short On Food, Essentials

MONTESANO, Wash. -- As residents in Pacific County are dealing with damaged property following this week’s series of storms, they are also running low on food, water and other essentials needed to survive, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.Thousands of dollars of food was ruined at the Pioneer Market in South Bend due to power outages that continue to leave residents and businesses without heat. Employees scanned all of the spoiled items in an attempt to assess how much was lost before they threw it away.
VIDEO: Thousands Still Without PowerThe store has no frozen foods or meat and is running low on other items as well but said they are open in an attempt to serve those in need.In Montesano, flooding has shut down Highway 7 to all traffic.In Raymond, people are lined up for propane. Station owner James Empey said his station is one of the few open and cars are also lining up for gas. National Guard generators are supplying the power and volunteers are preparing meals for storm victims at a Raymond shelter. Many staying at the shelter said the storm has knocked the county back to into the pioneer days.“We have no heat, no running water and no flushing toilets,” said one person.Others said they are grateful for a hot meal and a place to feel safe.Officials said they hope to have power restored in some parts of Raymond Thursday morning.
