CHEHALIS, Wash. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency set up a mobile office in Chehalis Thursday afternoon to assist hundreds of families in need of help.Just over a week ago, major flooding destroyed homes in Lewis, Pierce and Grays Harbor counties.“I’ve got three kids and no vehicle and the wirings not working. We’ve got no plumbing and my kids are getting sick from the water being contaminated and I don’t know what else to do,” flood victim Anita Welch told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.FEMA officials said flood victims can begin the long process of recovery by applying for federal relief at their mobile office.“We’re not going to handle thousands of people, but there are people who do have problems, do have issues or questions and we want to provide. This is basically a one-stop shop,” Leif Skoor with FEMA said.Tim Reed went to the FEMA office Thursday hoping to find help.“My house went underwater, lost my job and lost everything and just trying to restart,” Reed said.FEMA officials told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News most people should be able to handle all their claims by phone, but just in case they set up their mobile office in the Yards Building and will likely remain there for months.
