"Better, brighter and under a buck!" As part of Mayor Greg Nickels’ Climate Action Now effort to promote “Simple changes you can make to live greener,” Seattle City Light is shaking up the local energy market with its Twist & Save compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb campaign."Consumers can buy a variety of CFL bulbs at special prices through 2008," reports Anne Ducey, a Seattle City Light conservation specialist. Under the Seattle Climate Action Now program, City Light is partnered with dozens of local stores to sell Energy Star compact fluorescent bulbs at some of their lowest prices ever. Buy in bulk and you could pay less than $1 a bulb - no coupons or rebate forms needed. Dozens of Seattle's famous faces are helping spotlight the new types of CF bulbs and prices by appearing in City Light's Twist & Save Public Service Announcement.

The new CF styles and sizes also mean you can put them in many more home and business lighting fixtures. Ducey gives an example, "The first compact fluorescent bulbs were too big for some fixtures. The mini-twisty solves that."The new CF globe lights have their twisty innards hidden inside a traditional, round, frosted-glass exterior. Similarly, you can now buy CF's that look like old-school incandescent bulbs.I'm really impressed by all the people who donated their time, and shall I say 'screwy' senses of humor, to appear in our Twist and Save Public Service Announcement," says Ducey.
