Immelman Withdraws From Players Championship

POSTED: 4:43 am PDT May 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - Masters champion Trevor Immelman withdrew from The Players Championship on Thursday morning because of an illness.

Immelman was set to play with Padraig Harrington and Woody Austin for the first two rounds of the tournament. He was replaced in the field by Dustin Johnson.

Since winning the Masters last month, Immelman missed the cut at both the Byron Nelson Championship and the Wachovia Championship.

The Players Championship is also without 2001 champion Tiger Woods, who is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery performed two days after the Masters.
