Perry, Two Others Share John Deere Lead

POSTED: 4:24 pm PDT July 12, 2008

(Sports Network) - Kenny Perry, who has already won twice this season, carded a four-under 67 Saturday to move into a share of the lead after three rounds of the John Deere Classic.

Perry completed 54 holes at 15-under-par 198, where he was joined in the lead by Eric Axley (67) and Brad Adamonis (66).

Second-round leader Will MacKenzie managed a one-under 70 on Saturday to slip into a share of fourth place at minus-14. He was joined there by Jay Williamson, who fired a nine-under 62 in the third round at TPC Deere Run.

Perry birdied the second and came back with a five-foot birdie putt on the fourth to move into a share of the lead at 13-under.

He parred four straight and fell one back again, but Perry erased that deficit with a birdie on the par-four ninth. Perry was the first to 15-under thanks to a nine-foot birdie putt at 14.

Perry, however, missed the green at 15 and that led to a bogey. Axley and Adamonis got into the clubhouse at 15-under just ahead of Perry, who joined them there with a six-foot birdie putt at the last.

"It was a good day. Today was a day I played better than I did the first two rounds," admitted Perry. "I didn't score as well, but I felt like from tee to green I was better, and to me that's comforting for tomorrow. Shooting 15- under, I've got a great shot at winning another tournament, and hopefully we'll get after it again tomorrow."

Adamonis ran off three straight birdies to open his round and that gave him a share of the lead at 13-under. He moved one ahead at minus-14 with a nine-foot birdie putt at the par-four fifth.

After four straight pars, Adamonis three-putted for bogey on the par-five 10th to fall to minus-12. Axley watched as Adamonis poured in a 23-foot eagle putt on the par-five 17th to briefly take the lead at 15-under.

"It feels good to get in another 66. Hopefully tomorrow I can do the same and we'll see what happens," said Adamonis, who owned a share of the 54-hole lead for the first time in his PGA Tour career.

Axley eagled the second and followed with a birdie on the third, but he gave those strokes back with bogeys at four, six and seven.

The 2006 Texas Open winner started to climb back up the leaderboard with a birdie on the 11th. Axley dropped in birdies on 14 and 16 to grab a piece of the lead at 14-under.

After Adamonis eagled 17. Axley rolled in a seven-footer for birdie to join his playing partner at minus-15. Both players parred the last to share the lead.

"I feel good. I got off to a really good start today and then kind of slowed up there on the front nine, made three bogeys," Axley stated. "But then I finished off with a really good, solid back nine."

J.P. Hayes fired a six-under 65 Saturday to climb into a share of sixth place at 13-under-par 200. He was joined there by Charlie Wi (69), Chad Campbell, Tim Clark and Scott Sterling are one stroke further back at minus-12.

Amateur Philip Francis is alone in 11th place at 11-under-par 202 after carding a seven-under 64 in the third round.
