Flu Hits Many School Districts Hard

The flu that caused the death of a 7-year-old Kent girl is sweeping through dozens of local schools.

Health officials said the flu has caused more than 10 percent of students at 33 King County schools to be sick.

So many students at Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle were sick that officials have canceled school until Monday.

The flu hit hundreds of students in Pierce County as well, where more than 10 percent of the students at more than a dozen elementary schools were out ill this week.

In Snohomish County, 10 schools reported more than 10 percent of the students were out ill.

Two schools in Skagit County reported more than 10 percent of students were sick.

In Kitsap County, there are three schools with more than 10 percent of students out sick.

The Renton School District reported 80 staff members out sick, an unusually high number. The district said 11 bus drivers were ill.
