Posted: 5:19 pm PDT October 8, 2009Updated: 5:22 pm PDT October 8, 2009

Thurston County schools may have their first outbreak of swine flu for this school year.

The Director of the Thurston County Health Department told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that in the past week, 35 percent of students at Tenino High School have gone home sick or been sent home sick with flulike symptoms.

Health Department Director Sherri McDonald said the outbreak is likely Swine Flu but nobody has been tested and it is unlikely anyone will be tested unless students end up hospitalized.

At this point, no students have required hospitalization for their illness.

The Health Department Director said the situation is not unexpected and is likely to be repeated in other schools as the school year progresses.
