'Freshman 15': Legend Or Reality?
According to a study by Cornell University, college students gain an average of four pounds during their first 12 weeks on campus. The cause of the weight gain is linked to all-you-can-eat dining facilities, evening snacks, empty-calorie food choices and recent dieting experiences. How can you control your weight while you're away from home? Stock up on low-fat snacks such as pretzels, fruit, graham crackers and popcorn. Cafeteria meals can be high in fat, but there are generally many healthful choices. Try for balance. If you choose a high-fat food, balance it with low-fat items such as vegetables, salad with low-fat dressing and fresh fruit.Remember to get some physical activity, too. Eating right and exercising regularly will put you at the top of the class.
