PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Hundreds of job seekers lined up early Thursday morning for day two of interviews for temporary work at the Puyallup Fair.Only the first 600 people in line will get an interview from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday. People who don't get an interview will have a chance to apply again Friday or Monday.Nearly 4,000 people showed up Wednesday to interview for 3,000 temporary work positions in food service, retail sales, game and booth operators for next month's fair, said Karen LaFlamme of the Puyallup Fair and Events Center.Due to the inability to process that many applicants in one day, many of those people who showed up were asked to return Thursday, LaFlamme said.WorkSource Employment Office staff could only meet with 1,000 applicants Wednesday. In the past 25 years, the WorkSource staff would meet 500 potential employees on the first day of hiring, and some years when the economy was more positive, much less than that, LaFlamme said.Interviews are being held at the WorkSource Employment Office at the fairgrounds, 9th Avenue Southwest between 4th Street Southwest and 5th Street Southwest in Puyallup.Get information about hiring at TheFair.com.Wages start at $8.55 an hour, with some paying more based on duties and skills required.Applicants must be at least 16 years old and have proof of legal right to work, such as a Social Security card. The fair opens Sept. 11 and runs through Sept. 27.
