Louisville Powers Past Kansas State

(Sports Network) - Angel McCoughtry scored 24 points to lead the Louisville Cardinals to an 80-63 victory over Kansas State Wildcats in the second round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.

Louisville advances to the round of 16 to top-seeded North Carolina in the New Orleans Region.

Chauntise Wright and Patrika Barlow added 13 points apiece in the win for Louisville (26-9), while Candyce Bingham tallied 12 points to go with 10 boards and seven assists.

Ashley Sweat scored 16 points to lead Kansas State (22-10), while Kelsey Nelson chipped in 12 points off the bench in the losing effort.

The Cardinals shot 54.8 percent from the floor during the first period of play to open a commanding 41-28 halftime lead.

The Wildcats shot at an impressive 56.0 percent clip during the second stanza, but Louisville countered with a 51.5 percent effort from the field to claim the 17-point victory.
