Texas No Match For UConn

(Sports Network) - Maya Moore racked up 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead the top-seeded Connecticut Huskies to an 89-55 romp over the Texas Longhorns in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Renee Montgomery tallied 17 points for UConn (34-1), which advances to the Sweet 16 to take on fifth-seeded Old Dominion in the Greensboro Region. Tina Charles finished with 15 points for the Huskies, who got 10 points apiece from Charde Houston and Brittany Hunter.

Carla Cortijo scored 18 points and dished out six assists in the loss for Texas (22-13), while teammate Earnesia Williams added 12 points.

UConn shot 21-of-31 from the floor in the first half en route to a 48-30 lead at intermission.

Strong defense enabled the Huskies to seal the victory, as they limited the Longhorns to 33.3 percent shooting from the field over the final 20 minutes.

UConn finished the clash with a 41-29 rebounding advantage and 23 assists.
