Sooners Downed In OT By Notre Dame

(Sports Network) - Charel Allen poured in a career-high 35 points to lead the fifth-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish to a 79-75 victory over the fourth-seeded Oklahoma Sooners to advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Ashley Barlow added 16 points in the win for Notre Dame (25-8), which advanced to play top-seeded Tennessee in the Oklahoma City Region.

Courtney Paris tallied 24 points and collected 16 rebounds to pace Oklahoma (22-9), while Amanda Thompson contributed 19 points to go with eight rebounds and eight assists in the losing effort. Jenna Plumley chipped in 18 points for the Sooners.

Notre Dame connected on a solid 57.7 percent of its attempts from the floor during the first period of play, enabling the Irish to hold a 38-34 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Sooners shot at a 50.0 percent clip while holding the Irish to a meager 30.8 percent effort. Paris evened the score at 65-65 with a bucket with 13.7 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.

Oklahoma scored the first five points of the extra frame, but the Irish managed to tie the contest at 70 with 1:49 remaining and held off the Sooners to take the four-point victory.
