Annapolis, MD -- (Sports Network) - The Naval Academy has named Stefanie Pemper its new women's basketball coach.

Pemper spent the past 10 seasons at Division III Bowdoin, where she posted a record of 235-48 with nine NCAA Tournament appearances. The school reached the D-III title game in 2004.

"Stefanie is a perfect fit for the Academy," said Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk. "She is personable, accomplished, a visionary and inspiring as a coach and is a proven leader. Coming to Annapolis from one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the nation, coupled with her unparalleled success on the court, we have every reason to believe the future for Navy women's basketball is as bright as it has ever been."

Pemper is the fourth all-time winningest coach in Division III. She was named the D-III national coach of the year after the 2004 season, when her squad went 30-1 and became the first team in any sport in school history to play for a national championship.

"I'm excited for the challenge," said Pemper. "I'm flattered by Navy's offer and see it as a fantastic opportunity."

Pemper replaces Tom Marryott, who resigned in March after five years on the job. Marryott also served as an assistant with the men's basketball program before taking the women's job in the spring of 2003.
