Freeman Leaves Iowa

POSTED: 4:36 pm PDT May 2, 2008

(Sports Network) - Iowa junior guard Tony Freeman was granted a release from his basketball scholarship on Friday and will not be a member of the Hawkeyes for next season.

"Tony informed us of his decision that he will complete his college career elsewhere," said Iowa basketball coach Todd Lickliter. "Tony worked hard to come back from his injury last season and we appreciate the effort he provided throughout the course of the year. We wish him nothing but success in the future."

The 6-foot-1 Freeman missed Iowa's first 10 games last season after suffering a stress fracture in a pre-season exhibition game. In 22 contests, he averaged 13.8 points and 3.1 rebounds. In three seasons with the Hawkeyes, Freeman played in 86 games, with 40 starts, and averaged 7.5 points.
