New York, NY -- (Sports Network) - Texas Rangers outfielder David Murphy was named the American League Rookie of the Month for April.

In 27 games last month, the 26-year-old Murphy batted .277 with two home runs and 14 runs batted in.

The 17th overall choice in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft by Boston, Murphy scored 15 runs, collected 14 extra-base hits and had 10 multi-hit performances.

The Baylor product finished the month by notching at least one RBI in six straight games.
