Berkman Named NL Player Of The Week

POSTED: 12:03 pm PDT May 12, 2008

(Sports Network) - Houston Astros first baseman Lance Berkman was selected as the National League Player of the Week for the period ending May 11.

Berkman, who won the award for the fourth time in his career and the second time in the last three weeks, led the big leagues with a .682 batting average, 15 hits, 10 runs scored, a 1.136 slugging percentage and a .741 on-base percentage.

The four-time N.L. All-Star's .682 batting average was the highest over a six- game span for a player with at least 20 at-bats since Derrek Lee of the Chicago Cubs hit .750 from June 17-23, 2004.

On May 6 against Washington, Berkman recorded the first of five consecutive multi-hit performances, going 5-for-5 with two doubles and four runs scored.
