O's Pound Rangers

POSTED: 5:11 am PDT July 5, 2008

(Sports Network) - Freddie Bynum drove in three runs and the Orioles jumped on the Rangers early and came away with a 10-4 victory over Texas in the first of three meetings at Camden Yards.

Every Baltimore starter either had a hit or scored a run with Adam Jones and Brandon Fahey each recording two hits, two runs scored and two RBI in the Orioles' third win in four games.

"We got production from the bottom of the lineup," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said. "Fahey is giving the club a big lift. Jones continues to swing the bat well. Not only did those guys give us a lift, but they rolled the lineup over and let those guys in the middle get extra at-bats."

Jeremy Guthrie (5-7) took the win after allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings of work.

Vicente Padilla (10-5), who entered the game with a 7-1 record in 10 starts on the road this season, was torched for eight runs on nine hits and two walks in just 2 2/3 innings. Milton Bradley was 2-for-4 with three RBI, and Ian Kinsler scored, drove in a run and extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a 2- for-4 effort at the plate.

The Orioles showed their offensive burst early. Trailing 1-0 after a two-out RBI double by Bradley in the away first, Aubrey Huff tied it up with a single off the glove of a diving Chris Davis at first, scoring Nick Markakis, who pushed his hitting streak to a career-high 12 games with a double to right.

Fahey doubled in a pair in the home second, slicing a humpback liner to left, and Markakis singled home Fahey with a shot up the middle two batters later.

Baltimore's four-run third ended Padilla's afternoon. With two runners on, Kevin Millar stroked an RBI single to right, and Jones grounded into a force out to bring in another run. Bynum, who batted leadoff in place of an ill Brian Roberts, made it an 8-1 ballgame, lacing a come-backer up the middle to bring in two runs without a throw.

Adding injury to insult, it was revealed later that Padilla had a bruised right thumb, though subsequent X-rays came back negative.

The rest was up to Guthrie, who was in command until the seventh. A one-out single and walk opened the door for the sizzling Kinsler, who stroked a run-scoring single to center. The run finished Guthrie's outing, and Ryan Bukvich surrendered a two-run, two-out single to Bradley after walking Hamilton to load the bases. David Murphy grounded out weakly to second to end the rally with the Rangers still trailing, 8-4.

The Orioles put two runners in scoring position with no outs in the eighth, and Jones singled past a drawn-in infield to knock in a run, and Bynum brought home the 10th run with an RBI groundout.

Game Notes

Roberts was scratched from the lineup with flu-like symptoms...The Rangers had one extra-base hit, compared to the Orioles' six...The season series is now tied, 2-2...In the second game of the series on Saturday, Texas' Scott Feldman will be on the mound instead of Eric Hurley, who was scratched due to a sore left hamstring.
