Toronto, ON -- Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Gregg Zaun's grand slam in the bottom of the 13th inning capped Toronto's 7-4 gut-wrenching victory over Tampa Bay in the second of three meetings with the Rays. After the Blue Jays blew a three-run lead in the ninth, the Rays went ahead for the first time in the game in the away 13th on Dioner Navarro's two-out, RBI single. Toronto showed some moxie in its season-high seventh straight victory, loading the bases on a pair of singles and a walk in the bottom half off Tampa closer Troy Percival. Zaun stepped in with two outs and smashed the first pitch he saw over the right- field wall for the game-winner. Brian Tallet (1-1) allowed Shawn Camp's inherited run in the 13th but was credited with the win. Zaun, Joe Inglett and Lyle Overbay each had three hits, with Overbay adding two solo homers. Percival (2-1) blew his fourth save of the season for the struggling Rays, who have dropped four of five. The Rays still remain 2 1/2 games ahead of the Red Sox in the AL East after Boston fell to Texas Saturday.Final Score: Detroit 6, Minnesota 4 Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Curtis Granderson and Magglio Ordonez hit two-run homers in the eighth inning, as Detroit rallied from a three-run deficit to top Minnesota, 6-4, in the middle contest of a three-game set from the Metrodome. Miguel Cabrera also drove in two runs for the Tigers, who had dropped four of five coming in, including a 10-2 drubbing on Friday. Clay Rapada (3-0) picked up the win in relief, after allowing one hit over 1 1/3 innings. Fernando Rodney worked around trouble in the ninth to earn his ninth save. Starter Justin Verlander gave up eight hits and four runs over 5 2/3 frames while striking out four and walking four. Carlos Gomez had two RBI and Jason Kubel knocked in the other run for the Twins, who have lost four of their last five. Chicago topped Los Angeles, 7-6, in 15 innings later Saturday, dropping the Twins to 2 1/2 games behind the White Sox in the AL Central. Matt Guerrier (6-7) suffered the loss after allowing the game- deciding home run. Starter Scott Baker let up just four hits and three runs in 7 1/3 innings, striking out five but walking four. Final Score: Kansas City 3, Cleveland 1 Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Gil Meche pitched seven effective innings to give the Kansas City Royals a 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the second of three games. Meche (11-10) finished the game allowing just one run on three hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters. Joakim Soria pitched a perfect ninth for his 35th save of the year. David DeJesus finished the game batting 3-for-4 with two runs batted in while Mark Teahen had two hits for the Royals, winners of four out of five. Zach Jackson (0-2) was solid for seven innings but received the loss. He allowed three runs on nine hits without walking a batter while striking out two. Shin-Soo Choo recorded two of the Indians' three hits and scored the lone run, and Asdrubal Cabrera got the other hit as Cleveland snapped its 10-game road winning streak. Final Score: Oakland 5, Baltimore 1 Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Jack Cust tallied two homers and three RBI as the Oakland Athletics topped the Baltimore Orioles, 5-1, at Camden Yards. The teams were supposed to play a day/night doubleheader but Tropical Storm Hanna caused the first game to be postponed. A makeup date has yet to be determined. Greg Smith (7-14) scattered three hits and five walks through seven scoreless innings, and Rajai Davis was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI for the A's, who have won two straight following a four-game skid. Jack Hannahan added a solo home run in the win. Daniel Cabrera (8-9) recorded just nine outs in his start, yielding six walks, five hits and two runs in defeat. Nick Markakis drove in the Orioles' lone run in the club's season-high eighth straight setback. Final Score: Chicago 7, LA Angels of Anaheim 6 (15 innings) Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Jim Thome's home run in the bottom of the 15th inning sent Chicago over Los Angeles, 7-6, in the second installment of a three-game set at U.S. Cellular Field. Justin Speier (1-8) started the inning for the Angels, and retired Jermaine Dye on a grounder to third. He then served up the deciding blast to Thome, who launched the pitch into the right-field seats. For the left-handed slugger, it was not only the game- winner but also the 537th homer of his career, passing Mickey Mantle for sole possession of 14th place on the all-time list. Paul Konerko and Nick Swisher also homered for the White Sox, who have won three games in a row. Coupled with Minnesota's loss earlier Saturday to Detroit, Chicago holds a 2 1/2 game lead over the Twins in the AL Central. Ehren Wassermann (1-1) recorded one out in the top of the 15th to record the win. Starter Gavin Floyd allowed seven hits and five runs over seven innings. Juan Rivera hit a two-run home run, while Chone Figgins, Brandon Wood and Mike Napoli also hit a homer for the Angels, who have dropped two straight and three of four. Starter John Lackey was tagged for nine hits and five runs over seven full frames. Final Score: Texas 15, Boston 8 Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Nelson Cruz homered twice and tied a career- high by knocking in five runs, and the Rangers finally beat Boston, 15-8, preventing the Red Sox from gaining ground in the AL East. Josh Hamilton continued his incredible season by driving in three runs for the Rangers, who had lost all eight previous meetings with the Red Sox in 2008. Hamilton's two-run single keyed a seven-run second inning. Gerald Laird had three hits, an RBI and scored twice, while Chris Davis added a pair of hits, an RBI and also scored three times. Matt Harrison (7-3) scattered seven hits and gave up four runs over six innings to win for the fifth time in six decisions. Boston had a four-game winning streak broken but remained 2 1/2 games behind Tampa Bay for first place in the AL East. The Rays lost, 7-4 in 13 innings, earlier Saturday at Toronto thanks to Gregg Zaun's two- out, grand slam off Troy Percival. Tim Wakefield (8-10) suffered the loss on a milestone night for the knuckleballer. Saturday marked his 500th appearance as a Red Sox, joining Bob Stanley (637) as the only pitchers to reach that mark in a Boston uniform. Wakefield was lifted after allowing seven runs on four hits and four walks, lasting just 1 2/3 innings -- his shortest outing of the year. Final Score: New York 7, Seattle 4 Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Bobby Abreu had a solo home run and finished 3-for-4 with three runs driven in and two scored, missing the cycle by a double, as the New York Yankees kept their fleeting postseason hopes alive with a 7-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners in the middle duel of a three- game set. Jason Giambi went 3-for-5 with a solo blast, two RBI and a pair of runs scored for the Yankees, who have won four of six and moved within 7 1/2 games of the Boston Red Sox for the lead in the Wild Card race. Xavier Nady and Hideki Matsui each drove in a run in the win. Sidney Ponson (8-5) lasted six innings and yielded three runs on five hits while taking the win. Mariano Rivera recorded the final four outs to secure his 33rd save of the year. Raul Ibanez went 2-for-3 with a two-run blast and drove in all of the runs for Seattle, which has dropped three of their last four contests. Jeremy Reed went 3-for-4 and scored twice in defeat. Starter Ryan Rowland- Smith got a no-decision after lasting 6 1/3 innings and giving up three runs on seven hits and four walks. Sean Green (4-5) took the loss after yielding a run without recording an out in the seventh.
