Cleveland Continues Road Trip In Baltimore

(Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians continue their road trip tonight with a visit to Baltimore's Camden Yards, where the Tribe will attempt to hang another loss on the badly-slumping Orioles in the opener of this four-game series.

Baltimore has lost eight straight games and 13 of its last 14 contests, and the team's woes continued with a 5-1 home setback to Oakland on Saturday. Jack Cust slugged a pair of home runs and Greg Smith tossed seven shutout innings as the A's completed a sweep of a two-game series that was abbreviated due to Tropical Storm Hanna.

Orioles starter Daniel Cabrera (8-9) recorded just nine outs in a horrific outing in which he allowed six walks, five hits and two runs. Lou Montanez scored Baltimore's only run following a leadoff triple in the bottom of the eighth.

A matchup with Cleveland's Fausto Carmona may not help the reeling Orioles' cause. The talented right-hander has won three consecutive starts and posted a solid 3.57 earned run average over that stretch.

Carmona did allow three runs over 5 2/3 innings against the White Sox this past Tuesday, but received plenty of run support in a 9-3 Cleveland victory. He recorded back-to-back road wins over Texas and Detroit prior to that start, which improved the 24-year-old to 3-1 with a 3.66 ERA in away games this year.

The native Dominican is 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA in six career games (4 starts) against Baltimore, although he was rocked for seven runs in 6 1/3 innings during a no-decision against the Orioles on August 11.

Garrett Olson gets the assignment for Baltimore tonight seeking to end a string of poor outings. The rookie southpaw is 0-2 with a horrid 11.81 ERA over his last four starts and has allowed at least five runs in each of those appearances.

Olson was last in action on September 1, when he gave up six runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to Boston at Fenway Park. That was actually an improvement over his previous start, a 1 2/3-inning no-decision at Detroit on August 17 in which he was tagged for five runs.

The 24-year-old had a no-decision against the Indians in Cleveland on August 12. Olson worked six innings in that game and surrendered five runs (4 earned) on nine hits.

Cleveland has won four of its last six games and just took two of three on the road from Kansas City. In Sunday's rubber match with the Royals, Cliff Lee earned his 21st victory of the season with 7 1/3 effective innings in the Indians' 3-1 decision.

Lee (21-2) gave up just one run on seven hits and walked just one in another excellent effort for the Cy Young Award favorite. Jensen Lewis pitched a scoreless ninth for his eighth save of the season.

Victor Martinez batted 2-for-3 and drove in all three Cleveland runs on the afternoon. Shin-Soo Choo added two hits and scored twice in the win.

These teams split a four-game series in Cleveland from August 11-14, as well as a four-game set at Camden Yards during May of the 2007 season, the Indians' last visit to Baltimore.
