Floyd Leads Pale Hose At Seattle
(Sports Network) - The Seattle Mariners will have a tough task ahead of them, as they will have to battle the red hot Gavin Floyd and the Chicago White Sox in the finale of a three-game set at Safeco Field.Floyd was at the top of his game the last time he took the hill, as the 25- year-old took a no hitter into the ninth against the Minnesota Twins. Unfortunately Joe Mauer ruined Floyd's chance at history, but the right-hander was still able to finish with a 7-1 victory. The young hurler tossed 8 1/3 innings against Chicago, allowing just one run on one hit and three walks. It was an amazing performance by Floyd, who has been spectacular all season, posting a 3-1 mark with a 2.50 ERA. In his brief career, Floyd has made three appearances against Seattle (one start), but has struggled tremendously in his little experience against the Mariners. In just seven innings of work, the right-hander has surrendered seven runs on eight hits and one walk. The Mariners will challenge the White Sox's red-hot pitcher with Miguel Batista, who unfortunately has not had much success this year. The 37-year-old has not enjoy many highs this year, and is currently just 2-4 with a whopping 5.66 ERA. The last time the right-hander was on the rubber, he did not make it through the third inning, as he tagged by the Texas Rangers in a 10-1 setback. In the loss, Batista was battered for six runs on three hits and six walks in only 2 1/3 innings of work. Last night, Brian Anderson hit a three-run home run as the White Sox defeated the Mariners, 8-4. Carlos Quentin went 3-for-5 with three RBI while Nick Swisher added two hits and an RBI for the White Sox, who have won three straight and four of five. Javier Vazquez (4-3) got the win as he gave up four runs on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of work. Adrian Beltre went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI and Jose Lopez drove in the other run for the Mariners, who have dropped five straight and 10 of 11 overall. Jarrod Washburn (2-5) got the loss as he gave up seven runs on eight hits in five innings of action.
