"The 787 is the first all-new airplane that we've developed here at Boeing in a number of years. And it's the first airplane to have its primary structure be composite material, so that allows it to be more fuel-efficient," said Mary Hanson of Boeing.

The 787 is the fastest-selling airplane in aviation history, with 568 planes on order from 44 airlines.

The factory needs one more major component -- a central fuselage section from Charleston, S.C. Then workers can assemble the plane that is scheduled to roll out July 8.
