WASHINGTON -- Senator Patty Murray is questioning the Pentagon Thursday about the decision to give the refueling tanker contract to Airbus and not Boeing.A hearing is under way on Capitol Hill regarding the $40 billion deal Boeing lost.Murray’s focus Thursday is how much the deal is going to cost taxpayers. She said foreign-owned Airbus will need to retrofit hangers, ramps and taxiways to build the large tankers and wants to know why these additional military construction costs weren't considered during the Air Force’s decision to give the contract to Airbus.Murray has been highly critical of the decision. The senator said she still hears from frustrated Washingtonians about the lost deal.“They cannot believe that the United States of America’s Air Force awarded a contract, for a plan that is the backbone for all of our military, to be built with their money, overseas, to help other workers,” said Murray.Murray sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee, which funds the military.
