Boeing Workers Rally As Negotiations Continue

POSTED: 12:13 pm PDT August 27, 2008
UPDATED: 12:44 pm PDT August 27, 2008

During their lunch hour at the Everett plant, 5,000 to 8,000 Boeing employees rallied as around-the-clock negotiations continue between the company and the Machinists Union.

Union members said the company had better meet their demands or face a work stoppage.

Boeing's offer Tuesday sought to cut retiree medical, benefits for new hires and job security language was lacking, machinists said.

"We have always worked with the company to be more productive … and they have yet to ever treat us as equal partners in the success of the company," said union member Jason Redrup.

Boeing spokesman Tim Healy told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Michele Millman, "Employees deserve to share in our profits and we're going to do it. And they're going to see it."

Healy also said that Tuesday's offer was "outstanding, but not the final say."

Boeing said it wants to give the union its final offer before this weekend.
