Evening Anchor Joins KIRO 7 Eyewitness News

She comes to KIRO 7 from KYW-TV, the CBS-owned station in Philadelphia, where she anchored the Emmy Award-winning 4 p.m. newscast and reported for the 11 p.m. newscast. Previously, she was an anchor and reporter at WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C. and WKRG-TV in Mobile, Alabama.“Angela’s credentials and accomplishments are outstanding. In addition to her strong journalistic skills, she is an equally impressive human being,” says Eric Lerner, KIRO-TV vice president and general manager. “Angela, Steve and our chief meteorologist Rebecca Stevenson will make a great team.”Russell began her broadcasting career at WTMG-FM at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications News. She participated in the Poynter Institute’s prestigious reporter seminar series and is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.“I’m excited to be coming to Seattle,” says Russell. “The quality of journalism in Western Washington is something other parts of the country try to match. This is a team with a great reputation dedicated to giving viewers the information they need. It’s a beautiful part of the country that cares about its cities, towns and neighborhoods and it will be a privilege to report on those communities.”Angela’s husband Telly is finishing his medical degree and plans to complete clinical rotations at the University of Washington.
