WASHINGTON -- Still waiting on that rebate check? Viewers have expressed plenty of frustration and confusion over when they'd be getting the cash to start "stimulating the economy." Eligible taxpayers are entitled to a maximum of $600 per person and $300 per child.

Here are some of the reasons you may not have gotten it:

1. It's being mailed instead of direct deposit

If you used a service like Turbo Tax and applied for refund-anticipation loans or had your e-filing fees deducted from your refund, you may have to wait a little longer for your check. You won’t get the rebate through direct deposit; it will be mailed to you. This applies to about 20 million taxpayers, according to the IRS. You will also get a paper check if you split your refund between accounts.

2. System glitches

This is a rare one. In about 1,500 of the 30 million payments sent out the IRS determined the rebate went to the wrong bank account. The agency spokesperson Marvin Robert tells me they are working to resolve this on a case-by-case basis.

3. Child-refund problems

As many as 350,000 households didn’t get the $300-per-child refund. The IRS says this was in part because of taxpayer error but they believe they’ve identified the people affected and they should get their checks in July.

4. It's not your turn yet

The rebates are going out by Social Security number. The last date for direct deposits for all Social Security numbers is May 16. If you are expecting a paper check, it will be dropped in the mail between now and July 11. Check the IRS Web site to find the exact date based on the last two digits of your Social Security number.
